The
Heffley Creek Bridge is located in the Heffley Creek community in the north
end of Kamloops, BC. The bridge carries “Old Highway 5” over Heffley
Creek. The interchange was designed for the City of Kamloops by Watson
Engineering Ltd.
The project included two reinforced earth wall structures designed as true
abutment structures to support the new bridge. Adding to the challenge
of building these structures was the location in a steep sided scenic ravine
through which the creek flows and on the slopes of which archaeological
relics had been found.
The
design for the structures called for TerraClass® reinforced earth walls
with a grave concrete architectural finish. Each abutment wall was just
over fifty meters in length up to 8.6m in height with a total wall area
of 600 sq m.
The project was awarded to RECo in November 2017 by Acres Enterprises and
engineering and fabrication proceeded on this basis. Construction of the
walls started the beginning of April 2018 and was completed in June.
